Flavio Manzoni, Director of Ferrari Design in Italy, endorsed the new fiction book, The Timeless Racer: Machines of a Time Traveling Speed Junkie, recently.
The Timeless Racer provides a glimpse into the inner workings of professional motorsports in the year 2027. In the novel, racer Vic Cooper, travels through time to compete in the most challenging races in history.
This book is particularly interesting because Ferrari design is always looking forward.
In the next few design cycles, it's predicted that Ferrari will gravitate more toward LMP1 styling. The Timeless Racer details what an LMP1 Le Mans type endurance racer could look like in the future. In addition, the book touches on how political pressure will continue to influence automotive design. Forthcoming regulations from the motorsport governing bodies will add further requirements to make racing more environmentally friendly. This crusade can even be seen today, with Ferrari working on hybrid KERS technology, in addition to their new 2014 F1 V6 turbo.
"Daniel's designs are spectacular."
The book is proof that the most successful designers will be those who can best communicate their vision of the future.
The author of the book, Daniel Simon, filled the book with incredibly realistic images. It's exciting to realize that elements of these designs could possibly find their way into the next Ferrari flagship model.
The forward of the book was written by one of the most famous Ferrari drivers ever, Jacky Ickx.
Ickx is known for racing in the 1960s, '70s and '80s. He is the only driver to have won in Formula One, Can-Am, Le Mans and the Paris-Dakar Rally. Many people thought his Ferraris were futuristic back then.
